JEM going into historical regency romance had me intrigued, the story was good, the beginning was slow, then it picked up and ended a bit rushed for my liking。 There were similar situations with other historical series I have read and that was something I didn't expected from the author, but I like the twists the story had at the end。 Eliza was a great character, I love everything about her, she was perfect for the Duke and the story, but let's be honest we all wanted to know about the Duke, he JEM going into historical regency romance had me intrigued, the story was good, the beginning was slow, then it picked up and ended a bit rushed for my liking。 There were similar situations with other historical series I have read and that was something I didn't expected from the author, but I like the twists the story had at the end。 Eliza was a great character, I love everything about her, she was perfect for the Duke and the story, but let's be honest we all wanted to know about the Duke, he was a mystery and as all male characters we know written by JEM, we all wanted to see how he was and his story。 I would've loved to know a bit more about his story。 The elements of the regency genre were very well executed, no modernization and accurate to the time period, I like the steam and the way the main couple interacted with each other, their chemistry and what they found in the other, they certainly had to overcome a few things, and I loved every page of how their story unfolded。 I can't wait to read the next in the Belmore Square series。 Blog |BookBub | Amazon |Audible |Instagram |Twitter |Facebook |TikTok |YouTube |Pinterest |Tumblr |Bookstore 。。。more

I was a big fan of Ms Malpas particularly loving the This Man series。 I’m afraid she should stick to writing contemporary romance as this was very poor。The main issue I had was there were so many anachronistic words, behaviours and lifestyle issues that it was distracting from the story such as it was。 A moments research would have revealed that no one in the 19th century said:not on your nelly, up beat, shimmy, not on the same page etc etc etc。 I started listing all the problematic words and ra I was a big fan of Ms Malpas particularly loving the This Man series。 I’m afraid she should stick to writing contemporary romance as this was very poor。The main issue I had was there were so many anachronistic words, behaviours and lifestyle issues that it was distracting from the story such as it was。 A moments research would have revealed that no one in the 19th century said:not on your nelly, up beat, shimmy, not on the same page etc etc etc。 I started listing all the problematic words and ran out of paper。 I don’t often DNF books but was prepared to make an exception for this。 No one who has read Mary Balogh, Elizabeth Hoyt, Eloisa James , Lisa Kleypas should trouble themselves with his。 Sad because I want to like it。 。。。more

Usually historical romance isn't my go to, but I figured I would try something new。 I am so glad that I did。 One night with the Duke was such a good read。 It's full of romance with some mystery thrown in。 I loved Elisa。 She's stubborn, smart, and sassy。 And the Duke, or Johnny Winter as he's also known as, is mysterious, brooding, and a bad boy。 What's not to love about that。 I love the chemistry they shared。 If you are one who's new to this particular genre and not sure, I highly recommend this Usually historical romance isn't my go to, but I figured I would try something new。 I am so glad that I did。 One night with the Duke was such a good read。 It's full of romance with some mystery thrown in。 I loved Elisa。 She's stubborn, smart, and sassy。 And the Duke, or Johnny Winter as he's also known as, is mysterious, brooding, and a bad boy。 What's not to love about that。 I love the chemistry they shared。 If you are one who's new to this particular genre and not sure, I highly recommend this book。 It's great and may very well change your mind。 。。。more

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review。I do not read a lot of historical romances, it is not my favorite, but when one of your favorite authors writes a historical romance you have to give it a try and so I did。I have to say that I really enjoyed this story, living life through 19-year-old Elisa as if I was by her side。 She was a strong, young woman, trying to be independent。 But in 1814 it was unheard of for a young woman to do anything but I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review。I do not read a lot of historical romances, it is not my favorite, but when one of your favorite authors writes a historical romance you have to give it a try and so I did。I have to say that I really enjoyed this story, living life through 19-year-old Elisa as if I was by her side。 She was a strong, young woman, trying to be independent。 But in 1814 it was unheard of for a young woman to do anything but get married, have children, and run her household。 Elisa didn't want any of that and to be set up to marry a man she didn't love was something she detested。 Meeting the Duke of Chester has set her mind whirling and her body on fire。 Elisa doesn't know what to do with either, all she knows is she wants to see him again and again。 But does she believe the rumors about him and his family? As I said, I really enjoyed this one and I hope you give it a chance too。 It is a good story with a suspenseful aspect that will keep you hanging because you will want to know what happens in the end。 。。。more

Another beautifully written story by JEM。 Amazing settings, amazing characters, and amazing storylines。 Everything we have all come to expect from this great author。 This may be her first historical romance book but it should not be her last。

Quiet Underwhelming。 The plot is Okay。。ish(see what I did there ;) The MCs were not fleshed out enough for me。 The push and pull got to be too much- esp when it came from the hero as we do not get his POV its very frustrating to understand whats going on。 I miss true JEM Alphas like JESSE or Theo(from Gentleman Sinner) who are obsessive and relentless and even though in those books we don't get their POVs we know where they stand in their feeling to the heroine。 Also not a lot of 1 on 1 with the Quiet Underwhelming。 The plot is Okay。。ish(see what I did there ;) The MCs were not fleshed out enough for me。 The push and pull got to be too much- esp when it came from the hero as we do not get his POV its very frustrating to understand whats going on。 I miss true JEM Alphas like JESSE or Theo(from Gentleman Sinner) who are obsessive and relentless and even though in those books we don't get their POVs we know where they stand in their feeling to the heroine。 Also not a lot of 1 on 1 with the MCs here and so much drama with the heroine's family and siblings(eye roll) The writing also felt 'purposefully complicated? and not as smooth' Didnt feel like a JEM novel TBH。 Would not recommend。 Would rather read Stephanie Laurens for historical romance 。。。more

Headstrong heroine with modern ideals, Duke with trauma, bad guy who wants his way at the expense of everybody else, and good guy that didn’t ask for this but almost marries her cause he has no choice。 The characters were likable。 Just not very memorable。 This is Malpas’ first foray into regency romance and it was a nice first dip into the waters。 I just found myself wanting a little more。 I am interested in the following books that we got hints about in this one!Huge thanks to Jodi Ellen Malpas and Valentine PR for an E-ARC! I really enjoyed this book, it took me a bit to get into, but once you get passed the first couple chapters (which are very informative)the book has lots of intrigue, mystery, and a lot of steamy encounters。 Eliza and The duke had such an amazing connection from just looks and intimate conversation。 I was intrigued with the ending and about the secret that was revealed。
